Quanz Family in the New World

 

Quanzes immigrated to the New World between the 19th and early 20th centuries.

 

The first Quanz found by the Halbert’s / Burke’s Peerage organization came to New York City in 1864. His name was Heinr. Like thousands of others, be sought a better life for himself in this land of opportunity.

There were several Quanz families that came over to North America. I have been working for several years to find the connection between the various Quanz families in North America. There are several different family lines that still follow the Quanz spelling and there may be others that have changed the spelling to Quantz, Quance or Quince.

 

The main lines seem to be:

 

·       Adam Quanz - Born before 1833 in Germany - descendants living in New York State – see Ch 020.0 – Adam Quanz New York

 

·       Justus Quanz - Born about 1838 in Germany

 

·       Anton Quanz - Born in Baden, Germany in 1835.

 

·       Christian William Quanz - Born before 1836 – we believe in Germany

       

·       Adam Quanz – Born before 1833 in Germany

 

·       Martin Quanz - Born in 1842 in Germany. Children were born in Manhattan, New York.

 

·       Valentine Quanz - Born in Frankfurt, Germany – Richard Quanz's line

 

 

The following four lines seem to originate in a very close proximity in Germany. Buchenau and Schlotzau are only 12 kilometres (8 miles) apart.

 

·        Johann "Adam" Quanz -Born in Buchenau, KurHessen, Germany – descendants living in Texas, Ohio and Kansas – see Ch22.1 - Adam Quanz of Ohio and Kansas

 

·        Johannes Quanz (John Quince) - Born in Buchenau, KurHessen, Germany and brother of Johann Adam Quanz – descendants living in New Jersey area – see Ch22.1 - Adam Quanz of Ohio and Kansas

 

·       Adam Echardt Quanz - Born in Schlotzau, Germany – my line - descendants living mainly in Canada - see Ch05.0 – Adam Echardt Quanz

 

·       Heinrich Quanz, age 24, from Schlottau, Germany came over on the Hansa (ship) arrived on Oct. 10 1864. The town is spelled Schlottau and not Schlotzau.

 

The common names in the lines would indicate some kind of relationship and certainly Martin Quanz from the New York line "resembles" the Quanzes in our line. I believe we are all connected.

 

The Quanz lines that entered North America seem to be from these families.

 

Heinr Quanz

Came to New York City in 1864. His name was Heinr. We also have a record that Heinrich Quanz, age 24, from Schlottau, Germany came over on the Hansa (ship) arrived on Oct. 10 1864. Would that location be Schlotzau, in Germany? This is where the Adam Echardt Quanz line came from.

            Born on August 14, 1831

Johan “John” Quanz (Quince)

            Born on August 10, 1824

            Brothers born in Buchenau, KurHessen, Germany

Johan Adam Quanz’s descendants include Gail Lester Quanz of Texas.

 

Adam Echardt Quanz

            Born on September 17, 1838 in Schlotzau, Hessen, Germany

            Came to North America with brothers and sisters:

·         Johann "John" Quanz

·         Konrad "Conrad" Quanz

·         Eva Elizabeth Quanz

These four families all seem to have come from the Schlotzau area.

 

The following families are traced back to Germany but we don’t know where in Germany.

Born about 1838 in Germany

Son William was born in 1858 in Germany

- Married in 1878 in New York.

  

Anton Quanz

            Anton was born in Baden, Germany in 1835.

            Wife was Mary

  

Christian William Quanz

            Married to Maria Magdalina Flood

            His children were born in Manhattan, New York.

  

Adam Quanz

            Likely born before 1833 in Germany

            Married to Ann Marie Wegand

            Son John Quanz was born in 1853 in Germany.

            This is Martin Quanz’s family

            Descendants living in Wayland, New York

  

Martin Quanz

            Born in 1842 in Germany

            Married to Anna Maria Rademacher
