Thoughts and Ideas for Archived Sermons & Media

Email - Feb 1, 2024

Here is a proposal for the archiving all these sermons. If they are not easily accessible they are not of much use to most people. Even if it is within the Archives and not open to the public most would never be used. The following I think would help make them more accessible and useful.

Here are some points for thought;

    a. On the web searching for content usually relies on titles and key words that someone have thought to enter.

    b. Documents can be indexed on the web by the robotic crawlers/spiders and are then searchable.

    c. HTML content is searchable.

    d. PDF documents are supposed to be searchable but not always.

    e. There is Metadata that can be used for searches on the Archive database and possibly the web. This needs some study.

    f. The file Metadata includes a Number that indicates the year and the order the sermons were delivered in.

Idea;

1. The sermons can be transcribed by an online service and then copied onto a Word document.

2. We would add a link to the mp3 version of the sermon so the person looking at the text copy of the sermon can then play the sermon on their device or download the mp3 file like a podcast.

3. Each sermon would have the following versions on the system;

4. HTML web searchable text, pdf download version of the text, media, and metadata would be entered into a database or webpage for searching on the web.

5. Use the existing Archives website to host the Archived Sermons.

6. We could seek help to utilize the SQL database used by Markham Church for the media database.
